Instructions: How to file a tax return

17.03.2023

About all stages of filing a tax return: from contacting us to receiving a refund of overpaid taxes. We will answer the questions: when your declaration will be processed, what difficulties there are and where the money from the tax will come.

1. To get started, complete the “Tax Return Selection” questionnaire.

Answer all questions and click "View Result" to find out:

  • what form of declaration (P, M or C) is suitable in your case (it is built automatically based on the answers that you entered in the calculator);
  • which filling rate we have chosen for you: Simple, Standard or Complex.

2. On the page with the results of the questionnaire, you can immediately order the filing of a declaration. Fill in the contact information and click the "Submit" button.

Have you already ordered a declaration from us last year? Don't forget to check your email: there is a 50 euro discount coupon waiting for you! The coupon code must be entered when ordering the declaration in the appropriate field.

Are you registered as an entrepreneur? Don't forget to note this when ordering your declaration. We recommend that you order a call from the manager.

3. Receive an email with a link to pay for your order.

Attention! After 1-2 days, be sure to check if your payment has gone through. If not, please send a check by filling out the form tax.nl/proof-of-payment

4. After payment you will receive an email containing 2 links. The first is for creating a client’s personal account, the second is for filling out an electronic order form, in which you will also find a list of documents required to fill out your tax return.

Until you send us all the necessary data and documents, the order will be in the status “Waiting for documents”.

5. Create a client account by following the instructions in the link. Fill out all fields in your personal Profile. If you have a partner, be sure to fill out all the fields in the appropriate section. If you have children, fill out the “Children” tab. After filling out, do not forget to click on the green “Confirm” button.

6. Follow the Order Card link and fill out the Order Form. Attach all necessary documents in the required windows. Click on the "Submit" or "Save and Continue Later" button if you need time to collect the necessary information.

At this point, the order status becomes “Transferred to Contractor”.

7. To clarify the data in your declaration, we need to obtain permission from the tax office to access your data. After receiving data from you in your Personal Account, we send a request to the tax office to obtain this access. In two weeks you will receive a paper letter with a power of attorney activation code (machtiging) to confirm our authority as your intermediary (intermediair). You can find out more about machtiging letters here

You must also activate machtiging in your Personal Account. This is a standard procedure for each client, which takes up to 3 weeks. At this time, we do not have access to the information necessary to clarify the data in your declaration. But don’t worry: after gaining access, we will continue to work and the declaration will be submitted on time.

8. Next, the order is queued for execution by a specialist. When the order’s turn comes, its status changes to “In progress”: you can see it in the status of your orders in your Personal Account.

9. If the specialist discovers that some documents are missing, he will write you a letter requesting these documents.

10. The readiness of the declaration can be checked in your Personal Account in the order statuses.

11. We will send you a draft (draft) of the completed declaration: you will need to approve it or send it for revision if you find inaccuracies.

12. After all the modifications and your final approval of the declaration, we will send it to the tax office.

The term for consideration of the declaration by the tax service is from 3 months.

13. 2-3 months after sending the declaration, you will receive a second letter with a power of attorney (machtiging), which gives us the right to see the decision of the tax office. More about it here You don't need to do anything with this email: all you have to do to grant us access is ignore the email.

14. When the IRS makes a decision on your return, you will receive a letter by mail (physical mail). Based on the results of the decision, the tax amount will be either refunded or additionally paid.

15. If, as a result of the decision, you are entitled to a refund and you have not previously had financial relations with the tax service, you need to inform the tax office of your bank account number for a refund. We can help you: order our service "Notification of the tax about your bank account"

16. If, as a result of a tax decision, you are required to make an additional payment, it must be made within 6 weeks.
