Sticker about legal residence in the Netherlands, or sticker verblijfsaantekening

Imagine that you entered the Netherlands, applied for a residence permit, but you do not have a card yet, and you go to work tomorrow. How can you prove to the employer and other organizations (the same police that decided to stop you to check your documents) that you are legal in the country and have the right to work? The answer is simple - using a sticker verblijfsaantekening in your passport.

When can you request a legal residence sticker?

• You have applied for a residence permit extension or an application for another residence permit. Your previous one has expired, and you haven't received a new one yet.
• You have filed an appeal and are allowed to remain in the Netherlands until the decision is made.
• The previous sticker will expire shortly and you have not received a decision or a new document of residence yet.
• You have a prior authorization (voorlopige voorziening) on ​​hand and have been allowed to temporarily stay in the country.

How do I get a sticker?

An appointment can be made online at the IND website.

What to take with you?

• Passport;
• Meeting code (you will receive it by e-mail after you have made an appointment);
• An expired residence permit or a statement about the loss of a residence permit.

Note! In the following cases, you must call the IND to make an appointment for the sticker to be inserted:

• You have applied for a residence permit as a family member of an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen, but have not received a decision yet. And the date from the IND letter stating that you have the right to live and work in the Netherlands until a certain date has already passed.
• You have applied for a residence permit to live with your minor child who has Dutch citizenship, but have not yet received a card.
