Who does not need an MVV visa

You don't need to checkout MVV in the following situations:

– You are a citizen of one of the following countries:

  • Australia, Vatican City, United Kingdom, Canada, Monaco, New Zealand, United States of America, South Korea or Japan.

– EU/EEA Member State or Switzerland.

– You are going to live in the Netherlands with a family member from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland. At the same time, you yourself are a citizen of a country for which obtaining an MVV is mandatory. You can apply for an EU compliance check here.

– You have a valid residence permit in the Netherlands.

– You had a valid residence permit in the Netherlands. Now you don't have it anymore. You submit/have submitted a new residence application within 2 years after the expiration of your previous residence permit. Condition: you must have lived in the Netherlands full time during these two years.

– You have a valid residence permit in another Schengen country. You have a financial guarantor in the Netherlands. Your family members also do not need to apply for an MVV if your financial guarantor is applying for a residence permit for them. And your family members must already have a residence permit in order to stay with you in that other Schengen country.

– You have a residence permit as a long-term EU resident issued by an EU Member State. In this case, your spouse and/or minor child does not need to apply for an MVV either. However, you must already live with them in another EU country.

– You have a European Blue Card valid for at least 18 months in another EU/EEA country. You are/have applied for a residence permit in the Netherlands as a “European Blue Card holder”. In this case, your family members also do not need to apply for an MVV.

– You were born in the Netherlands and live with your parents. You are under 12 years of age at the time of applying for a residence permit. Your parents live in the Netherlands with a valid residence permit.

– You are/have applied for a residence permit for a start-up.

– You are transferred to a company branch in the Netherlands for long-term work.

– You are a foreign national who, due to circumstances, cannot return to your country of origin to apply for an MVV.
