All working residents of the Netherlands are entitled to receive subsidies - toeslagen. Since Ukrainian refugees have been granted the right to work, they can, accordingly, receive subsidies. This is discussed in a letter from the government to parliament. The first payments will be made since June 20, 2022. Watch our video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fS-5hIVAr7E.
Subsidies in the Netherlands
Subsidies and other types of financial assistance from the state are designed to support people with medium and low incomes. You can learn about the general principles for the appointment and payment of subsidies in our article.
But for each type of subsidy, it is necessary to comply with its own requirements and conditions. Request a subsidy you can do it yourself or through a tax consultant - for example, through the specialists of Nalog.nl. Government Letter to Parliament
The decision on the payment of subsidies for Ukrainian refugees in the Netherlands is contained in a letter members of the government to the House of Representatives on June 15, 2022. In particular, the letter was written on behalf of Secretary of State for Subsidies and Customs Aukje de Vries, Minister for Social Affairs and Employment Karien van Gennip and Minister for Public Housing and Spatial Planning Hugo de Jonge Jonge).
What are the main points in this letter?
- From June 20, 2022, zorgtoeslag and kinderbijslag will be paid in advance to working Ukrainians. Further, next year, the payments will be recalculated and the amounts settled.
- Decisions on the payment of huurtoeslag and kinderopvangtoeslag will be made on July 2, 2022. At the same time (under the current Dutch legislation) these subsidies are not linked to employment.
- Under Dutch law, the mother or father of a child cannot claim kinderopvangtoeslag if the other parent is outside the EU. But they plan to make an exception for the Ukrainians, since the fathers of the children remained in Ukraine as conscripts.
- Unemployed Ukrainians cannot qualify for subsidies, but do not lose the right to leefgeld - a living allowance paid by municipalities (hements).
