Can your relatives come to visit you in the Netherlands for the New Year holidays?

The pandemic has made its own adjustments in our lives. You can't just fly to Europe - the entry ban is still in effect. But for some cases, exceptions have been made.

Free entry for the vaccinated

From July 1, 2021, the ban on entry to Europe does not apply to those who received vaccines that are recognized in Europe. In addition, residents from the so-called safe in terms of infection with Covid-19 countries can enter the EU. The list can be viewed here. It does not include the countries of Eastern Europe and the states located on the territory of the post-Soviet space.

For those who are not vaccinated with one of the EU recognized vaccines, entry to Europe is also possible. But only if it is:

Beloved visit/sweetheart

Relationships, even if they are at a distance, are enough reason to get into the exceptions from the ban on visiting European countries because of the crown (het Europese inreisverbod). Keep in mind that the love affair will need to be proven.

  • you must have been in a relationship for at least 3 months.
  • you have seen each other at least 2 times on 2 different trips in your relationship. For example, while staying in a house or hotel. Or once for at least 4 weeks.

You will need to attach supporting documents to the application. For example:

  • airplane tickets;
  • previously used visas;
  • stamps in the passport;
  • payment details that indicate that you were somewhere together (for example, hotel reservations);
  • third party statements that you are in a relationship, such as a statement from your parents or friends;

Quarantine or enough  PCR test?
Before arriving in the Netherlands, check whether the country your relatives are coming from is on the list of “particularly dangerous areas”. You can see hereby typing in the name of the country. In many cases, to come to the Netherlands (if you are from Russia, for example) for the above reasons, only a negative PCR test for coronavirus no older than 48 hours is sufficient. If there is a certificate of vaccination with the European vaccine, then the test does not need to be done.

However, if someone from your family came from Ukraine, for example, then he or she will need to sit in quarantine for 10 days. You can shorten the quarantine period by passing the corona test 5 days after self-isolation. If it turns out to be negative, then the quarantine issue can be considered closed. Exceptions to the quarantine rule can be found here.

Attention!

The rules are constantly changing. Check the list of documents for a specific country.
