A new form of Dutch identity card (Nederlandse identiteitskaart) was launched on 2 August.
The new card model complies with European regulations: in the lower right corner you will see the EU flag and the letters NL in the center of the flag. This form also includes a number of new features that support greater security and safety of your personal data: the cardholder's fingerprints embedded in the chip, a personalized kinegram and a QR code with a citizen's service number (BSN) on the back of the card.
You do not need to specifically change your ID. All old-style certificates are still valid. But as soon as you need to update your Nederlandse identiteitskaart, you apply for a new card and receive this new version already.
