From July 1, 2023, penalty interest accrued on taxes not paid on time will increase. Penalties will increase one and a half times, from the current 4% to 6%. The decision concerns:
- income tax (income tax);
- inheritance tax (erfbelasting);
- payroll tax (loonbelasting.);
- tax on dividendsdividendbelasting);
- VAT (BTW) or as it is also called turnover tax (OB);
- real estate transfer taxoverdrachtsbelasting);
- road/vehicle tax (MRB) and vehicle purchase tax (BPM);
- excise duties (excise duty);
- non-alcoholic beverage consumption taxverbruiksbelastingen van alcoholvrije dranken);
- environmental taxes (belastingen op milieugrondslag).
The decision of the Dutch government to increase penalty interest rates (penalties) does not yet apply to part of the taxes related to the activities of legal entities, namely income tax (vennootschapsbelasting) and (conditional) withholding tax on interest and royalties (bronbelasting op renten en royalty's).
