Earlier, the government of the Netherlands developed a law that would not increase the child allowance twice a year. The saved funds were planned to be used to improve the quality of services for families with children. Now the Cabinet of Ministers has announced that it will withdraw this law from Parliament: from October 1, 2022, parents and guardians of minor children will receive more cash
Payments of child allowances (kinderbijslag) in the Netherlands are carried out 1 time per quarter. Therefore, parents and guardians will see the increased benefits from July 1 only on October 1. The allowance for all categories of children will increase by 20 euros (per person). The kinderbijslag is reviewed twice a year, in January and July.
The amount of the benefit from July 1 will be:
- For children from 0 to 5 years old - 249.31 euros,
- from 6 to 11 years old - 302,74 euros,
- from 12 to 17 years old - 356,16 euros.
Child allowance is due to every child in the Netherlands under the age of 17. To receive the allowance, one of the parents or guardians who is employed must fill out a special form on the SVB website (by logging in with DigiD). You can do it yourself or contact for help from Nalog.nl specialists.
Usually, the child allowance is automatically assigned by municipality employees (gemeente) when registering at a certain address. But sometimes the system fails, and then you have to apply for benefits in person. Most often, failures occur during the registration of children of foreigners. It can be assumed that with an increase in the number of Ukrainian refugees, such mistakes will occur more often.
