The revision of the minimum wage rates is announced twice a year by the Minister of Social Policy and Employment. From 1 July 2022 of the year minimum wage for workers aged 21 and over will be 1756,20 euros per month at full employment. Compared to the current rate of 1725 euros, which was introduced from January 1, 2022, the minimum salary will increase by 31,20 euros per month.

How is the minimum wage determined?

The statutory minimum hourly wage depends on the number of hours worked per week: 36, 38 or 40. In turn, this number is determined by the sector in which you work and the collective bargaining agreements (CAO) applicable to this sector.

The Minimum Wage and Minimum Holidays Act (Wet minimumloon en minimumvakantiebijslag, WML) stipulates that the overall improvement in the country's welfare must also be visible to minimum wage workers and benefit recipients. Therefore, the minimum wage is determined taking into account the average salary under the contract.

Minimum wage rates from 1 July

In addition to the minimum monthly wage, there are also minimum weekly and daily wages. From July 1, 2022, the gross minimum wage (wettelijk brutominimumloon, WML) per week will be 405,30 euros (previously €398,10) and 81,06 euros per day (previously €79,62) for employees aged 21 and over.
