You have certainly noticed that yellow ATMs (geldmaat) are increasingly appearing on the Dutch streets. Since October 2021, there are even more of them.
Geldmaat, a Dutch company that installs and maintains ATMs, has accepted the latest ATMs from ABN AMRO, ING and Rabobank. As a result, these banks no longer have their own ATMs. Anyone who walks into a branch of the same ING can still see the orange ATM with a lion, but very soon it will be replaced by a yellow one with a smile.
The transition of ATMs from ABN AMRO, ING and Rabobank to a single yellow machine began back in June 2019. To date, almost two and a half years later, more than 4700 Geldmaat ATMs have been installed in the Netherlands. And there will be even more - the payment service provider plans to install a couple of hundred more machines, bringing the total to 5200. Geldmaat hopes that the ATMs will be installed by the end of this year.
What are the advantages for you and me?
- You can use the yellow ATM if you have a card from any bank. You don't need to change it.
- All ATM machines look and work the same.
- Availability: Geldmaat promises that there is always a cash dispenser within a 5 km radius.
