At the end of March, banks will reopen hundreds of ATMs, which are usually used by entrepreneurs to collect (that is, deposit) cash into a bank account. According to the Netherlands Banking Association (Nederlandse Vereniging van Banken – NVB), nevertheless, an appropriate solution was found, which makes these so-called "machines / vending machines for sealed money bags" (sealbag automatic), more protected from possible explosions provoked by robbers.
On the recommendation of the police, banks have previously closed all sealbag automatic in the Netherlands. This decision was made after cases of a new type of hacking of ATMs - they began to blow up. The criminals put explosives into bags of money, and it could explode at any moment, for example, later, if people were just passing by, or at the moment when other entrepreneurs were collecting money. Naturally, this threatened the lives of other bank visitors, employees and ordinary passers-by.
On the other hand, this caused a lot of problems for entrepreneurs, as they had difficulties with collection.
Therefore, from January 25, 2021, 40 were temporarily opened in the Netherlands. sealbag automaticworking in the system Money mate, which are only available on weekdays from 10:00 to 14:00. These ATMs are now under constant surveillance during opening hours for security reasons, and money is withdrawn from them by banks every day. Entrepreneurs who decide to collect money must now always report this to the bank in advance. If they don't, then the ATM won't open. It is planned that starting from April 2021 sealbag automatic will be available every day from 7 am to 23 pm.
However, not all previously closed ATMs will resume their work. Ultimately, the Netherlands will have around 620 sealbag automatic.
