February 24, 2023 marks exactly 1 year since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. At the initiative of the Utrecht Ukrainian community "Vitalnya", mass commemorative events will take place on this day in the Jaarbeurs complex. The main railway carrier of the Netherlands, the NS company, will provide Ukrainians with free travel on this day to attend these events.
The Jaarbeurs complex, intended for holding mass events, at the beginning of the war became the end point of the flight route and the first point of stay in the Netherlands for many Ukrainian refugees. More than 5 Ukrainians have passed through the crisis center, opened in the Jaarbeurs 10 building, seeking salvation from Russian aggression.
During the commemorative events, Ukrainians and other participants will be able to walk along the Alley of Hope, repeating the path that led Ukrainian refugees from Utrecht Central Station to the crisis center in Jaarbeurs. Stands with photographs and information will be placed along the route, telling about the organization of the reception of refugees from Ukraine, about what these people had to endure.
During the commemorative events, a program will be presented on the central stage of Jaarbeurs, Ukrainian music will be played, various performers and creative teams will perform. On the exhibition floor of building 1, 25 meeting points will be organized, symbolizing Ukrainian cities. The meeting points will be designed as living rooms.
Events in Jaarbeurs on February 24 will last from 11:00 to 17:00 and will be held under the motto "Remember Together". Tickets for Ukrainians are free, other residents and guests of the Netherlands will be invited to contribute to the organization of these events.
