Question:

Hello! I often make small and inexpensive purchases on Aliexpress or Amazon, and I know that if their cost is less than 22 euros, then you do not need to pay VAT on them. And yesterday a friend told me that something has changed since January 1. Is it so?

Answer:

Hello! We would like to reassure you a little - from January 1, 2021, everything remains the same - parcels worth up to 22 euros are currently exempt from VAT on imports in the Netherlands. However, this exemption will expire on 1 July 2021, and from then on all imports of goods, regardless of their value, will be subject to EU import VAT.

There is a different threshold amount for import duties - parcels worth up to 150 euros are exempt.
