Due to the coronavirus crisis, banks are granting a six-month grace period to repay their current loans to small businesses that are able to continue their operations.

This joint decision was made by such banks as: ABN Amro, ING, Rabobank, Volksbank and Triodos Bank. The above banks decided to support MKB in connection with the growing financial crisis.

Assistance will be provided from previously created buffers (liquidity reserves). This move was made possible thanks to the support of the European Central Bank (ECB) and the Netherlands Central Bank (de Nederlandsche Bank).

“We are pleased that supervisory authorities, and especially banks, can provide such an opportunity. This gives entrepreneurs additional support during difficult times. This step is an ideal complement to the financial support package previously presented by the Dutch government,” says Hans de Boer, Chairman of the Board of the business organization VNO-NCW.

Banks also note that in this difficult period they do everything possible, including trying to help clients with private matters. The solution of financial problems, in particular, the payment of the mortgage during the absence of income, will be considered on an individual request.

“Banks are very aware of their social role in these difficult times,” concludes Finance Minister Wopke Hoekstra. According to him, assistance from the financial sector significantly complements the package of support for the country's economy, which was adopted by the Dutch government earlier this week.
