This Wednesday FIOD (Fiscale Inlichtingen en OpsporingsDienst) searched a house in Rijswijk. The 78-year-old man and his 74-year-old wife are suspected of knowingly or unintentionally providing false information to the tax authorities. In the course of the search, computers and accounting departments were seized.

According to the tax authorities, the couple have owned a bank account in Luxembourg for decades. However, the spouses disagree with the tax authorities and diligently deny this. They are not even stopped by the fact that the court has already recognized the evidence as sufficient and ordered them to provide information in full.

In another criminal investigation, FIOD searched the home of a 66-year-old man in the Dutch province of Zeeland. He is suspected of running several foreign bank accounts "behind the back" of the tax office. He is also suspected of deliberately providing false information to the tax authorities, because he hid these accounts. At the moment, all of his property has been seized.

FIOD announced that it plans to conduct even more similar investigations against those who refuse to provide information to the tax authorities or willfully misrepresent it.
