Please tell me, is it possible to understand this provision as follows - that you can store in savings accounts an amount equal to the mortgage debt and this will not be taxed? (box 3). Thank you.

Box 3: sparen en beleggen

Read aloud

Alexander, hello.
Yes, the amount of savings, shares or property is taxed - everything that is in your 3-minute debt box. True, not the entire amount of debt is deducted, but only what is above a certain threshold (3.000 euros per person or 6000 for fiscal partners). In addition, there is still a tax-free amount that can be stored in a savings account (30.360 euros per person or 60.720 for fiscal partners).

The only clarification is that if the mortgage is related to the house you live in, then it will refer to box 1, not box 3. And it cannot be deducted from the savings that you show in box 3.
