Good afternoon, I am a student, I worked 3 jobs last year (alternately, not simultaneously, i.e. 3 different employers), for some reason I owe it to the state. I would like to understand why. Thank you in advance.

A very common situation if you worked in several jobs and did not warn the second and subsequent employers about it. Everyone is entitled to tax credits. General discount - algemene heffingskorting is given one per person per year. And if people. Works, it is taken into account in the calculation of the salary. And people immediately pay less taxes. But if this discount was deducted by both the first and the second employer, then it turns out that the person used the discount twice, but did not pay additional taxes. It is also possible that the person worked and received at the same time a deduction for a non-working partner. This is again about the same discount. It doesn't matter what month you started working. All taxes and discounts in NL are calculated per calendar year.
The second arbeidskorting discount for employees depends directly on the employee's annual income and is also taken into account in the calculation of wages. Here, too, there may be an incorrect charge in the case of several jobs.
It is these irregularities that the tax return is designed to equalize, because all taxes paid from wages are just advance payments.
