The exemption of refugees from Ukraine under temporary EU protection from payment of transport tax (motorrijtuigenbelasting - mrb) and tax on cars and motorcycles (belasting van personenauto's en motorrijwielen - bpm) has been extended until March 4, 2025. The previous similar decision was valid until March 4, 2024.
Conditions for receiving benefits
To receive tax exemption, Ukrainians must have a temporary protection sticker and meet the following conditions:
- Your vehicle must have Ukrainian registration,
- You entered the Netherlands with this car or motorcycle.
What is needed to apply for tax exemption?
If you have already received such an exemption, it is automatically extended until March 4, 2025; you do not need to do anything.

The letter must contain a request for exemption from mrb and bpm taxes and the following information:
- your name,
- your address in Ukraine,
- your BSN number,
- your residential address in the Netherlands,
- your vehicle's license plate number.
