On March 22, 2023, the Pension Federation (Pensioenfederatie), the parent organization of the Dutch pension funds, launched a new tool for employers. With its help, entrepreneurs and companies can easily find out if they are required to have a pension system and register with a particular pension fund.

In many sectors of the Dutch economy there are agreements on the pension scheme and its implementation through pension funds. In particular, through this scheme, the system of sectoral supplements to pensions is being implemented. Employers doing business in certain industries are required to pay employee contributions to pension funds. Failure to comply with this rule may result in material and legal sanctions. To prevent this from happening, the employer needs a tool to find out his obligations for the pension provision of employees.

Pay attention! The main criterion for assigning a company to a certain pension scheme is the profile of its activities. If you plan to change or expand it, there may be changes associated with the transition to another pension scheme. Before making a decision, check whether changing or expanding your line of work will affect your pension obligations.

Use the tool available on the website of the Pension Federation.

Important! Using this tool, you can only find out if your company is one of those covered by the mandatory pension scheme. Sometimes the tool shows that the company has obligations to several pension funds. The form of the mandatory collective agreement and the specific fund for the transfer of contributions should be clarified in General Association of Employers of the Netherlands (algemene werkgeversvereniging - AWVN).
