Back in 2019, the Migration Service (IND) reduced a number of tariffs for obtaining a residence permit. However, the tariffs for residence permits for humanitarian reasons and for work as an individual entrepreneur remained at a disproportionately high level.

IND tariff adjustment

Annually, the IND indexes tariffs based on price increases and wage changes. Of course, indexation often entails a slight, but still increase in tariffs. However, we did announce their reduction. How is this possible?

In 2019, fees were reduced for Residence permit for work, study or family reunification, naturalization and citizenship. This happened after the European Court of Justice ruled that the costs of issuing a residence permit should be proportional to the amounts paid for an identity card. At the same time, the decision of the European Court and the EU Directive based on it did not apply to all residence permits. Hence, large differences in tariffs arose, which do not have significant justifications.

From January 1, 2023, the government decided to correct the situation, thanks to the adjustments, the fees are equalized and become more affordable for applicants. For more information about the rationale for tariff cuts, see letter Secretary of State Van der Burg to Parliament.
