Education Minister Dennis Wiersma on September 1 sent writing to the parliament, where he informed the deputies about the financing of the educational process for Ukrainian children for the current academic year. The government is going to support municipalities in organizing classes for school-age migrants from Ukraine by allocating funds from the state budget for this.
Ukrainian schoolchildren in the Netherlands
Since the start of the war, 75 Ukrainian refugees have been registered in the Dutch BRP (Basisregistratie Personen) registry, according to government data. Among them, about 000 thousand are children and youth who have the right to education. Schools have organized classes for them. In many cases it is necessary to equip additional temporary premises.
municipalities spending
Municipalities (hemements, gemeenten) have to equip classrooms in a short time and outside the accepted budgets. That is why the government allocates resources for the needs of the municipalities.
Previously, the government planned to allocate funds for these items of expenditure until December 2022, but now it has been decided to extend this period until the summer holidays of 2023 at least. Based on this, hements can be sure of proper funding throughout the school year.
Distribution of funds
Funds are allocated from the state budget at the request of Hement. We are talking about reimbursement of expenses that they have incurred and will bear when organizing classes for Ukrainian schoolchildren from March 2022 to July 2023.
Hementa will be able to receive a maximum of 90.000 euros for the entire period (based on 15 students - that is, per class). In total, the state allocates 313.899 million euros for these purposes (154.899 million euros in 2022 and 159 million euros in 2023).
