The Dutch government portal presented a user-friendly infographics, demonstrating the possibilities of foreigners to obtain asylum. The last changes took place on September 7, 2022.

The main changes concern citizens of third countries who arrived in the EU from Ukraine in connection with the war unleashed by Russia. In the diagram, they mostly belong to the third and fourth groups of foreigners. Initially, they were granted the same EU temporary protection status as Ukrainians. However, later it was decided that such foreigners should leave for their own states. Those who managed to obtain temporary protection status or managed to apply before July 19, 2022, can stay in the EU until March 4, 2023. The rest have three options:

  1. Contact the International Organization for Migration (IOM) (Internationale Organisatie voor Migratie - IOM) or the Repatriation and Departure Service (Dienst Terugkeer en Vertrek - DT&V) for help. Both organizations can help foreigners who do not have money to return to their homeland.
  2. Leave the Netherlands on your own.
  3. Apply to the refugee reception center in Ter Apel with a request for asylum on a general basis.
