Since September, the Netherlands Railways (NS) has been reducing the number of trains. The reason is the lack of staff. The train schedule for 2023 will be published in December, but residents of the Netherlands need to prepare for the fact that about 10% of trains will be canceled.
NS says it wants to help passengers but cannot provide transportation. The number of intercity trains will be reduced to 4 instead of the current 6. The evening schedule will start at 20:00 instead of 22:00. Evening trains and sprinters will run once every half an hour (instead of 15 minutes now).
The NS Directorate states that the train schedule is drawn up with the expectation of an increase in passenger traffic. There is currently a strike going on in NS to demand higher salaries for staff.
