As of August 9, 2022, you as an employer can apply for paid parental leave with the UWV (betaald ouderschapsverlof) for your employee. The amount of the benefit during paid parental leave is 70% of your employee's daily earnings.
Paid parental leave is available if the employee:
- mother or father;
- adoptive parent;
- stepmother or stepfather (adoptive parent).
Total employee can take 1 to 9 weeks paid vacation to care for a child during the first year of his life, in a row or on a flexible schedule. For example, the number of hours per day spread over several weeks, or several days per week over several months.
Under what conditions can I apply for benefits?
You can apply for benefits only after your employee has already taken at least one vacation of at least one working week. You can only claim benefits for the entire workweek.
You need to provide the following information from your employee:
- Date of birth of the child. If your employee has multiple children, you only need the date of birth of the youngest.
- Start date of paid parental leave.
- The number of work weeks your employee took paid parental leave (minimum 1 week and maximum 9 weeks).
- Your confirmation that the employee has already taken a vacation.
A decision on the application is made by UWV within 4 weeks.
How is the allowance paid?
You choose whether you want to receive benefits in a lump sum or in installments:
- If you want to receive benefits at one time, you must apply after your employee has taken all of the leave.
- If you want to receive benefits in installments, you file your first claim after your employee has taken part of the leave. After that, you can send a maximum of two more payment requests. Please note that you can only submit a second and third payment request after the first one has been approved.
