The Dutch government plans to maintain the practice of raising child benefits twice a year (adjusted for inflation). In addition, the Cabinet of Ministers plans to allocate additional funding to the Workers' Insurance Agency (UWV) and the Social Insurance Bank (Sociale Verzekeringsbank) to improve the quality of services provided.
The previous government of the country decided to abandon the indexation of child benefits. The funds received in this way were supposed to be redirected to the provision of social services. A bill proposed by the old government on this subject has even been passed by the House of Representatives, but the new government is withdrawing it.
These plans were announced in the Government's Spring Memorandum. In addition, a similar proposal was sent to the government by the Dutch Senate. The Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment (ministerie van Sociale Zaken en Werkgelegenheid) reported that the abolition of indexation of child benefits would negatively affect the income of Dutch families.
Currently, parents of minor children receive child benefits once a quarter in the following amounts:
- for children from 0 to 5 years old - 230,69 euros;
- from 6 to 11 years old - 280,13 euros;
- from 12 to 17 years old - 329,56 euros.
Poor people in the Netherlands who have children are eligible for additional benefits. Learn about it from our article.
