Since 1 June 2022 years Ukrainian refugees will no longer be able to use public transport in the Netherlands for free. The exception is the Dutch railway (Nederlandse Spoorwegen, NS). By presenting a Ukrainian passport, you can get a free one-day ticket at the box office of major railway stations in the kingdom.
Free travel right
Since March 1, Ukrainian refugees who fled the war in the Netherlands have been granted the right to use any type of public transport for free. This right remained in effect until while the Ukrainian was getting to a safe place of reception, that is, it was about the first trip from abroad and subsequent trips to reunite with the family.
The Dutch public transport companies jointly decided to show their solidarity with the Ukrainians in this way. This initiative has been widely used. However, now the temporary permit for Ukrainians is expiring, and every traveler will again pay for their trips.

Financing the travel of Ukrainians
Now the organization of the entry of Ukrainians into the Netherlands has been delegated to local authorities. Financial support for Ukrainian refugees is administered by the municipalities (gemeente - hementa), therefore, from June 1, the right to free travel will no longer be valid. Ukrainian refugees must have a valid ticket with them in all types of public transport, except for railway (NS).
