In accordance with the current rules, after registering with the municipality and entering the Personal Records Database (BRP), a Ukrainian refugee can use his driver's license for 185 days. The war has been going on for 2 months, which means that the first Ukrainian refugees will have their driver's licenses expired in about 4 months. Driving vehicles will be prohibited.

The Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management said the government is working on a solution to this problem. There are three possible solutions:

  1. Extension of validity of Ukrainian driver's licenses.
  2. Direct exchange of Ukrainian rights for Dutch ones.
  3. Obtaining the Dutch rights in the general order, with the passing of theoretical and practical exams.

The first option is expected to be adopted.
