Students of Dutch universities living separately from their parents will receive 255 euros per month. Living with parents - 91 euros per month. Students will start receiving this money from the 2023/2024 academic year.
This government measure was a reaction to the dissatisfaction of a generation of students who graduated with high student debt, according to AD, citing a source in The Hague.
Basic scholarships were abolished in 2015/2016. The amounts were then higher than those promised to students in 2023/2024. Students living alone received 286 euros, and those living with their parents received 102 euros.
An additional grant for a student whose parents have a low income will be a maximum of 419 euros. The amount depends on the income of the student's parents.
These amounts have not yet been approved. The government's proposal to reintroduce scholarships will be discussed this Friday.
