Tax will get better

Unprecedented criticism of the Tax authorities, especially after the child support scandal, led to the fact that the service began to change. We wrote more about the "toeslagenaffaire" (toeslagenaffaire) here и here.

It began with the fact that the government recognized: the system of taxation in Boxing 3 (tax on savings and investments) is set incorrectly. More than 200.000 citizens filed protests against the system, and now, finally, they were recognized as justified. We have a webinar about Boxing 3, and the other day our expert was talking about how the government is thinking about changing Boxing 3. Important information, we advise you to watch it! Link here.

Treasury Secretary Van Rij then said that the Internal Revenue Service is reviewing its approach to imposing penalties for non-filing tax returns. You can not fine everyone indiscriminately - you need an individual approach.

In particular, he remembered the 90 people who failed to file their 000 tax returns despite repeated reminders. For this they received a fine, at the moment it is 2017 euros. Among them are many young people who have just started working and do not know that they had to file reports. As a rule, they do not even live at the address where letters from the tax office come.

A fine for young people often turns out to be an unpleasant surprise that hits the pocket very hard. And some can’t pay it at all, they just don’t have money for additional expenses.

"This has gone on too long, it shouldn't have happened - and it won't happen again," Treasury Department Secretary of State Van Rij said. Responsible for taxes in the Ministry of Finance, Van Ray became recently - after the fourth cabinet of Rutte was formed. Let's hope that his enthusiasm will not run dry in the future.

Positive changes are taking place against the backdrop of talk that the tax has become soulless - they say, it would be nice to revive the tradition when tax inspectors came, and not just sent letters. Moreover, they came to advise, and not to inform about the fine.

This pleases, especially in its current form the Dutch tax service is not so bad. Especially if you compare it with the corresponding services of the countries of the post-Soviet space. Local tax authorities are always open for communication. The only thing they don't like is being ignored.

Therefore, do not be afraid of letters from Belastingdienst (tax)! Come to us if you have questions or you do not agree with the accrued tax - you can always challenge it. And we know how! Write to the chat on the website, social networks or email info@nalog.nl.

We also remind you that March 1 is the start time for filing declarations for 2021. More here. We are accepting your applications right now: you can order here.
