PostNL was fined € 288 for violating the Foreign Employment Act.
In 2019, the postal company delivered parcels with the help of 36 foreign drivers without a work permit, according to an investigation by the SZW Inspectorate.
The drivers did not work for PostNL, but for a shipping company delivering packages for PostNL. Since the drivers did not have European citizenship, the transport company was required to apply for a work permit if they work in the Netherlands. This was not done, so it is believed that the drivers were working illegally.
We remind you that from March 1, 2020, the Netherlands introduced compulsory registration for temporary workers, you can read here.
Since PostNL was the end customer, this company is also responsible for the violation of the law, for which the Inspectorate imposes a fine. The transport company itself was also fined 288 euros. PostNL announced that it will no longer work with the company and that the checks have been strengthened. The company that hired these subcontractors and all the chains involved was also fined.
The total fine was 865 euros.
In its 2020 annual report, PostNL has already stated that it is responsible for possible violations of the law.
Interestingly, PostNL is still wondering if the test results will be challenged.
