Traffic fines in the Netherlands increased by 2023% in 8,6. From 2024, violating motorists should prepare to pay even more: despite the proposals of the Prosecutor's Office made in September to reduce traffic fines, they will increase by about 10%. The reasons are inflation and lack of funds for maintaining traffic cameras to record violations. In total, in 2024 the Ministry of Justice and Security plans to receive 43 million euros from increased traffic fines.

How much will violators have to pay?

The most frequently recorded violations will be punished with the following fines:

General violations:

  • Driving on the left side of the road unless necessary - 270 euros.
  • Talking on the phone while driving - 420 euros.
  • Driving through a red traffic light costs 300 euros.
  • Unreadable license plate – 180 euros.
  • Driving on the sidewalk - 180 euros.
  • Parking on the sidewalk - 120 euros.
  • Overtaking on the right - 300 euros.
  • Blocking an intersection - 300 euros.
  • Failure to provide priority to drivers on the right at an intersection - 300 euros.
  • Turning without instructions is 120 euros.
  • Parking a vehicle in such a way that it may obstruct traffic or create a dangerous situation - 180 euros.
  • Parking less than five meters from the intersection costs 120 euros.
  • Parking in a disabled space without a valid disabled parking card costs EUR 370.
  • Creation of excessive noise by a vehicle - 300 euros.
  • Failure to display a warning triangle in the event of a breakdown of your car - 180 euros.
  • Unfastened seat belt - 180 euros.
  • Carrying passenger(s) under 12 years of age and shorter than 1,35 meters without using a suitable and approved child restraint system or seat belt - EUR 270.

Exceeding the set speed

Exceeding the established speed is punishable by fines, the amount of which depends on the size of the excess and the place in which it was committed. The amounts of fines (in euros) are indicated in the table:
