In the third quarter of 2023, about 29 thousand companies registered in the Netherlands decided to liquidate. Compared to the same period in 2022, 7% more businesses closed. 832 companies declared bankruptcy. The number of bankrupt companies has been growing for the fifth quarter, and the number of newly registered businesses is also decreasing. In the third quarter of 2023, compared to the same period last year, 3% fewer of them opened.

The reason?

KvK and most market analysts believe that the reason for the unfavorable trend is debts accumulated during the coronavirus pandemic. Then entrepreneurs were allowed to defer tax payments - perhaps some companies decided that these debts would be forgiven, while others faced objective difficulties.

Now the coronavirus crisis debts need to be repaid, but not everyone can cope with this. About 60 thousand entrepreneurs are among the debtors for the return of budget payments, and the filling of the budget is behind schedule by 4,1 billion euros.

Is it worth starting a company now?

In the previous quarter, 64 thousand new companies were registered with KvK. Their owners decided that registering and running a business was worth it. Yes, this is less than in the same quarter last year, but the total number of registered businesses is growing. The Netherlands has exceeded the 2,5 million registered company mark for the first time in its history.

Whether it is worth registering a business in difficult times, everyone decides for themselves. Nalog.nl is ready provide you with quality advice and provide assistance in company registration. We are optimists and believe in the recovery and expansion of the Dutch economy!
