29 April Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Jennes de Mol (Jennes de Mol) returns to Kyiv with a small part of the embassy staff. At the same time, the consular section of the Dutch Embassy in Ukraine will remain closed.
Why are the embassy staff returning right now?
For contacts with the Ukrainian government, diplomatic mail in Kyiv is of great importance. Now the embassies of other EU countries are returning to the capital of Ukraine. It is important that the Netherlands continue to cooperate with all these countries, including in Ukraine itself.
It is also important for the Netherlands to have a good understanding of the current situation in Ukraine. For example, to assess where the biggest security risks are. Or look at where to send emergency aid and how Dutch humanitarian aid is generally spent.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working step by step on the safe return of a small part of the embassy staff to Ukraine. First, on April 16, the embassy staff returned to Lviv. Further, the security situation allowed him to return to Kyiv. For the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the safety of its own employees is the highest priority.
The Dutch government still does not recommend trips to Ukraine
It is too dangerous to travel to Ukraine because of the war. The travel safety status in all regions is still red. Dutch people who wish to support refugees are advised by the government to do so from the Netherlands. There are several professional organizations that travel to the border areas to support the population.
There will be no consular reception at the Dutch Embassy
The consular section of the Dutch embassy in Kyiv will remain closed. However, any citizen or resident of the Netherlands who needs consular assistance can call the contact center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at +31 247 247 247 (XNUMX/XNUMX).
