The German government nationalized Gazprom Germany and several of its subsidiaries in Europe. Two of the subsidiaries, Wingas and Gazprom Energy, operate in the Dutch gas supply market. The decision taken by the German government will not affect gas supplies to consumers in the Netherlands, Gazprom Energy assures.

The international gas market took the news of the nationalization of Gazprom Germania calmly. The price of gas under long-term contracts in May will be 107 euros per MWh, while on the spot market gas is sold at 109 euros.

Gazprom Germania has more than 30 subsidiaries in more than 15 European countries. In particular, such companies operate in France, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Great Britain, Belgium and the Netherlands. The Dutch gas market is heavily influenced by Gazprom's subsidiaries Wingas and Gazprom Energy.

Wingas has an office in Rijswijk. The main customers of Gazprom's subsidiary in the Netherlands are Eneco, the largest energy company in South Holland, and city municipalities. An Eneco representative said that the company has a long-term gas supply contract, which is settled in euros. The contract is valid until 2030.

Gazprom Energy has an office in the provincial capital of North Brabant, Den Bosch. Organizationally, it is part of the British Gazprom Marketing & Trading. The company sells gas to business customers: large companies, medical institutions, small and medium-sized businesses, self-employed entrepreneurs. Representatives of Gazprom Energy said that they receive gas from Gazprom Marketing & Trading and do not depend on supplies from Russia.

The nationalization of Gazprom Germania was caused by the fears of the German government about the possible sale of the company without the control of the authorities. Germany cannot expose its energy infrastructure to the whims of the Kremlin, Minister and Vice-Chancellor Habek said, and a nationalization decision will ensure public safety and guarantee the population's energy supply. Voting rights for all Gazprom Germania shares have been transferred to the German state. Gazprom Energy said that the decision of the German government does not entail adverse consequences and that all obligations under contracts with customers will be fulfilled.
