According to European DAC7 regulations, online platforms are required to transmit information about sellers to the Belastingdienst, including turnover, number of transactions, and details.
There is a threshold for selling products: platforms report on those who have 30 or more sales or more than €2,000 per year.
There is no threshold for renting out housing and providing services through platforms—data is transferred from the first transaction.
What does this mean for you?
Selling personal items—clothing, furniture, or household appliances? This is generally tax-free: you're selling for less than you paid. The mere fact that the platform has transferred your data doesn't mean you're obligated to pay.
Do you regularly resell for profit? This may be considered entrepreneurial activity, requiring income declaration and sometimes registration with the KVK.
Do you rent out your property to tourists? You need to declare your rental income—the rules depend on whether you rent out your entire property or just part of it.
The biggest mistake is thinking that "small" income won't be noticed. Now, the data is sent to the tax office automatically.
