Haven't applied for subsidies for 2024 yet? Applications can be submitted until 1 September 2025

This week, 200 households will receive a letter from the Benefits Service (Dienst Toeslagen) informing them that they may still be entitled to health care benefits (zorgtoeslag) for 000.

Benefits are designed to provide financial support to citizens, such as paying for part of their health insurance or rent. However, 1 in 10 people eligible for benefits do not apply for them.

In 2024, the maximum amount of health care benefit was €1 per year (or €483 if there is a benefit partner).

That's why the Benefits Service sends out 200 letters to remind people of their possible right to zorgtoeslag. This year, the campaign has been expanded. Last year, after receiving such a letter, more than 000% of recipients (more than 37 households) still applied. The average amount was €55.

According to State Secretary for Recovery and Benefits Sandra Palmen, around 6 million households in the Netherlands receive benefits every month. However, there remains a group of people who, for various reasons, do not apply despite possibly being entitled to support.

That is why the Benefits Service regularly reminds citizens about the possibility of applying and important points to pay attention to. According to the Secretary of State, since the service already has the final income data for the previous year, the probability that those who received the letter are actually entitled to zorgtoeslag for 2024 is very high.

The right to benefits - even without a letter

Even if you haven't received a letter, you may still be entitled to benefits - especially if your income for 2024 has not yet been determined (for example, for entrepreneurs). The right to housing benefit and child supplement also remains.

Important: When you apply for 2024, you automatically apply for 2025 as well. So check your eligibility for 2025 as well.

⏰ The deadline for applications is September 1, 2025.

For kindergarten allowance (kinderopvangtoeslag), a different rule applies: the application must be submitted within 3 months of the child's first visit to kindergarten.
