In 2025, most workers in the Netherlands will see their net salary increase thanks to changes in tax laws.
If you earn the national average, you will receive 56 euros more in your account from January. For those working for the minimum wage on a 40-hour week, the increase will be 58 euros, and if your income is above average (3588 euros gross), you will receive at least 50 euros more.
Earning more than €2000? Then you’re likely to benefit from the tax changes. The new system will see tax cuts for most incomes: for amounts up to €38, the rate will be 441% instead of the previous 35,82%. For incomes between €36,97 and €38, the tax will be 441%, while for higher incomes it will remain at 76%. These changes will increase the amount you have on hand after tax.
However, the news is not positive for everyone.
Those who earn between 1000 and 2000 euros may see their net salary reduced: for example, with an income of 2000 euros per month, you will lose around 32 euros, and with 1500 euros, almost 31 euros.
This is due to a reduction in the maximum general tax credit from €3362 to €3068, which on average reduces the monthly payment by €24,50. For this group of workers, the reduction in the tax rate in the first bracket does not compensate for the loss of benefits. These changes are particularly noticeable for part-time workers and young people working full-time for the minimum wage.
