The Tax Service's computer systems will be able to process changes in the system only from 2029. Initially, 2028 was mentioned, but there were not enough IT specialists to solve problems related to the Box 3 tax (primarily this concerns depositors and investors who should receive a refund of overpaid tax on investment income). The decision to return the funds was made on the basis of a Supreme Court decision.
The issue is a priority for the authorities, who stress that the modernization of computer systems must be completed as soon as possible. "At the same time, restoration work following the Supreme Court's decisions must also be carried out as a priority," the authorities said in a statement. "This means that a new plan must be drawn up."
The Tax Service has been facing problems with outdated computers for many years: the software is outdated, and there are fewer and fewer specialists who are familiar with it. “It is very difficult to quickly and correctly make changes to laws using these systems,” tax service representatives note.
The IRS has been warning politicians for years not to make significant changes to the tax system.
