Spoiler alert: there will be more good things. Watch video with sound.

We have covered the most important news in the field of taxation, business, immigration and more for a whole year. Today we will remember the initiatives of the Dutch government that will have the most direct impact on our lives in just a few days.

Minimum wage

From 1 January 2022, an employee aged 21 and over will earn at least € 1725 gross per month. This is provided that he will work full time. This means that the minimum wage will increase by 24 euros compared to the second half of 2021.

Compensation for work from home

This innovation was brought to us by the pandemic and remote work. From January 1, 2022, on days when an employee works from home, he will not be reimbursed for travel expenses. But the employee receives compensation in the amount of 2 euros (which are not taxed) for the use of electricity, depreciation of the computer, for tea, coffee, etc.

The tuition deduction is canceled, but ...

From the beginning of 2022, the tax deduction for training costs will be canceled - it will be replaced by the STAP budget. The STAP budget is 1000 euros per person. It can be used for any kind of continuing education or training: courses and trainings, including related training materials and protective equipment, if necessary. Both employed and unemployed can get it.

Future immigrants will have a hard time

A new integration law will come into force next year (Wet inburgering 2021). It contains higher requirements for Dutch language proficiency. Level B1 is required to complete the integration. Let us remind that A2 level is enough now.

But those who want to have children are lucky

Great news for those who are planning to increase their family! Parental leave (ouderschapsverlof), which was previously unpaid, will become partially paid from 2 August 2022. By law, parents are given 26 weeks of parental leave for the first eight years of their child's life. Condition - 9 weeks must be taken during the first year of the child's life. The remaining 17 weeks are unpaid, but can be taken before the child turns 8.
