In order to preserve unique animals last summer, 2020, Nalog.nl took custody of a newborn cub of a ringed lemur named Eva, with whom we, dear readers, have already introduced.

And more recently she turned one year old, and we happily shared this holiday with her big family! We are sharing with you exclusive footage of this celebration.

Eva lives at the Ouwehand Zoo (Ouwehands animal park), who participates in the European Endangered Animal Care Program (European Endangered Species Program –EEP 's). The main goals of this program are to identify, maintain and restore genetically healthy species of endangered animals in zoos, and then return them to their natural habitat. Many species still have a long way to go in this direction, but there are already successes!

Therefore, we believe and hope that our support will make a small contribution in this direction.

Some interesting facts about lemurs:

  • Lemurs live only in the Comoros and Madagascar.
  • The favorite food of lemurs is dates, grapes, but they also eat leaves, flowers, bark and vegetables.
  • Lemurs live in very friendly families from 3 individuals to 25-30, in which fights and conflicts are rare. The role of leaders in the family is played not by males, but by females - tThis is an example of matriarchy in nature.
  • Lemurs, if necessary, can hibernate for a long time, and then their body temperature is compared with the ambient temperature. Almost none of the mammals can do this anymore.
  • Demonstrating their sympathy, lemurs touch the wool of the object of their adoration with the help of their teeth.
  • In the distant past, lemurs moved from mainland Africa to Madagascar on wooden rafts, fleeing predators.
  • They love to "sunbathe" with their arms outstretched wide. The reason is that they have scent glands on the inside of their wrists, which they heat to leave their scent on branches, trees, and rocks to mark their territory.
  • And the most important fact is that watching lemurs calms your nerves, relieves stress and lifts your spirits! Great, right?

And therefore, in conclusion - our life hack for the coming weekend - go to the zoo to visit our Eva!
